Poker players take to the casinos in huge numbers
by Thursday,25 Aug 2011 In the wake of Black Friday many US poker pros have been making regular trips to the local casino The events of April 15th that have come to be known as Black Friday have left a huge mark on the online gaming community of North America. It is estimated that tens of millions of American citizens enjoyed playing poker online and thousands made their living from the game. An elite few were fully sponsored pros meaning that they were able to play with someone elses money and split the profits. When the online game was taken away from citizens of the United States the thousands of men and women who depended on online poker for their livelihood were left without a source of income. Former online players have dealt with these changes in a number of ways. Some have left the United States for Canada and other countries where it is legal to play, others have gone to the local casinos to play in live tournaments and tables leading to a massive increase in the number of players playing live. One former fully sponsored pro poker player is Bryan Trischetta. The fact that he cant play online anymore ensured that he had to start making regular visits to Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs casino room to make some money. Its a numbers game, He says of poker, the game he used to play on as many as 10 tables at the same time. The more you play, the better you do. Bryans highest place finish since playing live casino tables was $3,176 for a 6th place finish at the Mohegan Sun which was the biggest tournament in the history of the casino. Until Black Friday, I came here to get away, Trischetta laments. Now, Im coming all the time, primarily to play the tournaments. Trischetta is still looking to produce the kinds of results that he was able to come up with everyday online and has done well in the events held at the casino having cashed in three of the four biggest events the Mohegan Sun has held since Black Friday. Each time he cashed he made it to the final table coming seventh out of 119 in April for $1,154 and ninth out of 102 in May for $618 in the $285 buy-in events. There are many players in the same position as Bryan, all of them attempting to make a living in the casinos of the United states.

New Nickname Needed For Nine WSOP Final Table Participants
Over the past couple of years, November Nine has been the catchy term associated with the nine players that work their way through the World Series of Poker main event all the way to the final table. In 2012, poker enthusiasts will have to come up with a new name for these players. The WSOP revealed their schedule for the 2012 WSOP, and for the first time in several years, the main event will end before November. Due to the upcoming presidential election, WSOP officials have backed the final table of the main event up until the last week of October. The presents a problem only in the sense that fans will have to become creative when referring to the final table players. Other changes have been made to the tournament schedule, and new tourney’s have been added to make 2012 the largest WSOP to date.Last year, just over 370 tables were used for the WSOP. This year, with officials expecting bigger player pools for the WSOP events, they have upped their tables to 470. The change shows that poker is again becoming as popular as it was back before the economic recession of 2008.While there was some speculation that the WSOP would do away with the November Nine concept completely, tournament organizers decided to give the idea one last chance to succeed. In recent years, the format has been criticized by players and fans. Players who reach the final table have cited their zone during the early stages of the tournament, and believe that the four month layoff breaks any momentum they may have accrued during the main event. For fans, the anticipation builds throughout the early stages of the main event, only to have a letdown when the final table is reached. The fans have received some concessions from the WSOP with the final table going live on a tape delay, instead of airing the final table several days after the event occurs.Overall, the 2012 WSOP will have 61 events. With several new tournaments, players will be invigorated, but the most changes were made to the main event. The largest poker tournament in the world will have only three starting days, down from the customary four. The off-day that has been in place recently has also been eliminated, meaning players will go straight through once day one and two are complete.

Negreanu knows what’s what in the world of poker
by Thursday,22 Sep 2011 Already a poker legend Daniel Negreanu is taking a bigger role behind the scenes Some of the biggest poker stars in the world are logging on to their PokerStars accounts in order to get in on the estimated $30 million dollars cash thats available in the PokerStars World Championship of Online Poker (WCOOP) event that is happening right now and continues for the best part of a month. One player who cant stop writing, tweeting and generally blabbing about the massive event is Canadian Poker mega star Daniel Negreanu. This player is one of the most instantly recognisable faces of the game and is constantly appearing on television in both live events as well as online games. In the wake of the Black Friday events Negreanu left his home in Las Vegas, Nevada and returned to his native Canada in order to continue playing the online game. The WCOOP will provide him with an excellent opportunity to ensure that this was the right decision as he looks to grab a big piece of the pot in the coming days. As one of the faces of PokerStars Negreanu is often talking about their events and issues, recently he tweeted about their technical issues to reassure players that they were under control. He is known not to shy away from the major issues of the day and strongly criticised Full Tilt Poker when they were involved in a spat with fellow poker megastar Phil Ivey over their refusal to payback their players funds. The Canadian player isnt just valued for his poker skills but also for his business acumen. The Vice President of the World Series of Poker (WSOP), Ty Stewart, said of Negreanu that “He’s the complete package. There are many brilliant thinkers on the poker side but he understands the business and marketing side as well as anyone is able to.” He even went as far as saying Id happily work for him one day. Negreanu is known for associating not just with poker players but also with the executives who run the tournaments, offering advice on how to improve their services and attract more players. Even Phil Helmuth admits that Negreanu is one helluva businessman saying “Yeah, he’s definitely a good ambassador for poker,” Hellmuth admitted. “He’s a really good one, maybe great. He generates a lot of interest amongst fans all across the planet. People want to watch him play, hear his shtick, you know?

Bet365 plans to go Australian with a gaming license
by Tuesday,30 Aug 2011 In order to apply for an Australian gaming license Bet365 have closed their site catering to players in the territory In an interesting turn of events the UK based online bookies, Bet 365, have closed down their Australian poker site in the lead up to their bid to gain an online sports license in the country. Players with the site were sent an email saying; Were in the process of applying for a sports betting licence in Australia. As part of our preparations for this, we regret to inform you that our Casino, Poker, Games and Bingo sites will no longer be available from week commencing 22nd August. Any funds currently in your Casino, Poker, Games and Bingo balances will be transferred to your Sports balance. Our Sports site will continue to work as normal. Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience this may cause.”There is some doubt as to whether or not the company are still taking sports bets from Australian clients at the moment. Were this the case it would undoubtedly make it much harder or almost impossible for them to procure their betting license as they would be accepting bets in contravention of the current Interactive Gambling Act. Should they fall on the wrong side of the law they risk losing their credibility, customers and any potential in the country. The journalist Patrick Smith, writing in The Australian reported that; Under the Interactive Gambling Act provisions, any person found guilty of providing a prohibited service is liable to a fine of $110,000 a day and any company up to $1.1 million a dayThe lack of action by the AFP [Australian Federal Police] continues despite Australian Crime Commission advice that internationally the integrity of professional sports has been compromised, with organised criminal groups targeting the sector. The joint chief executive of Bet365, Denise Coates has said that I can confirm that we are in the process of applying for a licence in the Northern territory of Australia, once we have submitted the application and the regulatory authorities have had the chance to consider it, we will hopefully be in a position to comment further. The Australian online gaming industry represents a massive market and it is growing fast. Australian gaming has the highest loss per gambling adult in the world according to H2 Gambling Capital. Obtaining an Australian license would provide a huge boost in capital for a huge online gaming monolith like Bet365.

As a loyal player of CelebPoker, Matt will be aiming for more package wins in our online satellites for land based poker tournaments. We caught up with himto find out a bit more. What do you do (occupation, studies, hobbies etc?)I have been making a living by playing poker for the last couple of years. Prior to this I studied software development. I greatly enjoy skiing, socializing, reading and a wide variety of music; primarily drum & bass and dubstep which I find very helpful as a driving force during long poker sessions. How long have you been playing poker and how did you start?I have been playing poker for 5 years. Poker first caught my attention when some of the better players started to move over from the real time strategy game “Starcraft” that I was playing competitively at the time, they all showed great results and this opened my mind to the advantage of investing my time and dedication into a more profitable venture. Televised poker also added to the appeal to get involved in this exciting game; seeing the pros at the time playing high stakes tournaments for millions of dollars helped fuel my desire to learn and hopefully one day compete with and defeat these great players. Did you use any special strategy to win the tournament?I vary my play style based on the players on my tables at the time. On some tables it is advantageous to play tight (only the best hands) and some loose (many hands), however either way I will try to play those hands aggressively making my opponents make tough decisions whilst giving me information about the strength of their hands. In this tournament I was able to play a loose aggressive style (this means i was playing a lot of hands whilst betting/raising/re-raising rather than calling) and had a very large stack going into the final table.A tight player will make it into the money positions in a tournament more than a loose player, however a loose player will go on the win much bigger prizes more often when they do make the money. Any key moments you remember from tournament? The final table is the most important part of the tournament, with the pay increasing steeply with each extra position gained; here outplaying the other players really matters.I was lucky to have a 2 – 1 chip lead on 2nd place going in to the FT and couldn’t really ask for a better start. The other players were all playing tight against me; trying to avoid me at all costs unless they had a monster hand. This is always a good thing as with nobody trying to contest pots with me I was effectively being given permission to constantly steal chips from the other players allowing me to extend my chip lead significantly… a lot of the pots i won on the FT could have gone to the other player had they tried to play back at me. What do you plan to do with the prize money?I plan to use a lot of the prize money to work my way into a number of large live events. I will be playing the Irish Winter Festival tournament in October and hope that this will be the first of many over the next couple of years. It has been an ambition of mine to expand in to the live poker scene for quite some time now and huge prizes are ready for the taking.I will also re-invest a lot of the money on the Celeb Poker cash/tournament tables in order to continue progressing up through the stakes striving to improve by playing better players and to earn bigger pay days. Advice to other players? You might have to play countless tournaments in order to take a big finish or it could happen on your first one. The important thing is to not let this high level variance affect your play, if you’re not happy with your results so far it does not necessarily mean you’re a bad player as luck is certainly a large factor in poker. Keep a clear head, always be trying to improve your game (there are many resources out there for an aspiring poker player to learn from), put in the hands and the results will follow.

Make Money Promoting Online Poker with Face Up Gaming
Make Money Promoting Online Poker with One of the Hottest and Fastest Growing Sites in the Industry: Face Up Gaming In this day and age with the increasingly entrepreneurial bent of people, I truly believe that affiliate programs on the internet offer the best opportunity for a person with no experience but strong desire to start their own business and generate passive repeating income for themselves now and growing in the future. Face Up Gaming has offered poker enthusiasts and business people alike the chance to promote on line poker through the Face Up Gaming Affiliate Program. The goal simply is to bring in new players. The great thing is these days with the explosive growth of free online poker, you dont have to do much more than give people a simple way to find the game site and they do the rest. The preferred way in the affiliate world is a great looking colorful link talking about the opportunity and benefit to them for taking it. There is such an ocean of pre-screened buyers out there already. Here you can check out Face Up Gamings best affiliate program Getting started is super easy and the program offers some great features like lifetime repeated income for every dollar spent by the person you refer. You get paid as long as your referral is an active member at 15% up to 20%. I am an avid affiliate and given the projected growth, based on recent performance of online poker sites generally and Face Up Gaming in particular, this is potentially an exciting opportunity. There arent many that Id say could be a massive income source all on by itself, but this is one. Why Face Up Gamings Affiliate Program? Let me tell you in more depth why I think the Face Up Gaming Affiliate Program particularly is a winner for both experienced affiliates and someone just starting out. This comes from having become part of affiliate programs that I have done great with and continue to, but also having been part of some duds. My first criteria always is: you want to be in a growing market with lots of opportunity. Online Poker is one of the fastest growing online recreational activities and in the context of gaming it is well on the way to being one of the top revenue producers. Just in the last 12 to 24 months many US states have taken steps to capitalize on the US Attorney Generals opinion allowing for regulated online poker run by state governments. This legalization element adds revenue potential never before contemplated and serves to add mainstream legitimacy. Millions of people will now be attracted who otherwise were reluctant to try online poker. A close second when analyzing an affiliate opportunity is the ease of talking about the topic. This generally means that I find the topic interesting. I think in this case, poker players, people who are fascinated by poker, or people who would like to learn a little more in the process of promoting the product, would be great fits as affiliates. Basically you want an opportunity with a never ending reservoir of topics related to the opportunity. A good affiliate will be out there sharing value and lots of it. You dont want to get into something boring like knitting, you want something with sizzle, zest and growing appeal. Membership sites are the best because you get the opportunity to get paid more than once into the future for your work in the past. This is the essence of passive income. Face Up Gaming offers this very element. Beyond that, you can qualify for bonus prizes like a card cruise for two and a seat at the World Series of Poker. Outsource your programming for less.
